Wine Dinner @ fi53fty three

All Egon Muller wines are Rieslings. "Scharzhof" is the entry level wine. Qualitatsweine by German legal standard It is made with the grapes from vineyards in Saarburg and Wawern and from the Wiltinger Braunfels and Wiltinger Kupp vineyards. The "Scharzhof" is an off-dry wine t hat typically balances the sweetness with the minerality f rom the slate soils and the acidity of the Saar.

This is the first time that i officially went to a wine dinner
as represent My Humble House with my Boss.
I was so nervous yet excited.

The event starts at 600p.m.
and we are having the apperitif of
Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese 2007 at the 1st floor
with some snacks of home-made potato chips and sweet potato chips.

pale golden yellow color, cinnamon and vanilla on nose. is a very fine and bright style, and also a lovely ripe character. another finely balanced wine, showing great acidity, with a fine texture.

I enjoyed this wine very much as it is a sweet wine.
I believe ladies will love it so much.

Around 700 p.m.,
we proceed to the 2nd floor as where the dining area,
we are seated as according to our name.
I was sitting between my Boss and the wine supplier Clifford.

After a short speech by Mr. Egon Muller VI, the dinner starts...

We had our appertizer: Fenne and Coconut, Aloe Vera and Douglas Fir
pairing with the wine of Scharzhofberger Riesling Spatlese 2007.

"Spatlese" actually means LATE HARVEST but in Egon Muller's estate, the term is for wines made from grapes of superior ripeness or even from overripe grapes. Spatlese wines can carry more sugar than Kabinett without losing their balance and while they are off-dry to semi-sweet.

compare to the Scharzhofberger Riesling Auslese, this wine is not that sweet as Auslese.

The second course is Amela Rubins and Basil, Compressed Watermelon and Tomato Berries pairing with the wine of Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett 2007.

Wine Type : Off Dry White Wine
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Country : Germany

"Kabinett" is made from grapes ripe enough not to need chaptalisation and yet not overripe. These wines are unique because in the Saar's cool climate the grapes can be fully ripe and still have very low sugar content. The Kabinett have only 7-9 % alcohol and often the 'slaty' minerality and the Saar's acidity dominate the fruit flavours.

I don't really like this wine as it's too dry for me.

Then the next course is Hokkaido Scallop and Hairy Bittercress, Chicken "Oysters" and Buckwheat pairing with the wine of Chateau Bela 2007.

Wine Type : Dry White Wine
Grape Variety: 100% Riesling
Country : Slovakia

"Chateau Bela" is very powerful Riesling, yet perfectly balanced, despite its 13% alcohol. Fine acidity and tropical fruit flavours, supported by mineral core. It goes well with shellfish, fish and asian cuisine.

I am not keen with this wine as well.

The next course is Poulet de Bresse, Wood Sorrel and Parsnip pairing with wine of Scharzhof Riesling QbA 2008 and Scharzofberger Kabinett 1990.

I don't like both of these wines as it's not acidity enough for me.

Last but not least is the dessert Chocolate and Coconut, Mango and Mangosteen pairing with the wine of Scharzhofberger Beerenauslese 1995.

I don't like this wine again as it's too sweet for me. After the dessert, there is one more dish call gin gelo, it's my nightmare as i almost want to vomit after consume of the gin gelo.

After a short speech by Mr. Egon Muller IV, the day called off.
